How to keep a styled QR code scannable
A QR code can lose about a third of its surface and still be read, thanks to error correction. Every code here uses the highest level (H). That budget is what a logo, rounded modules and colours spend from — spend too much and no phone reads it.

Keep the centre image under 20% of the code
We measured it. Codes decoded reliably up to 22% coverage and never at 25% or more, at any shape or size. The slider stops at 20% to leave room for ink spread on paper.

Dark modules on a light background
Many Android cameras cannot read an inverted code — light modules on dark. The tool warns when the colours are the wrong way round.

Contrast of at least 3 to 1
Pastel modules on a white background look elegant and fail in dim restaurants. The tool measures the contrast and tells you when it is too low.

Leave the quiet zone alone
The empty margin around the code is part of it. Do not crop it away or put text inside it when you lay the code out on a flyer.

Test it before you print it
Scan the downloaded file from a screen with two different phones. The decoder check here catches most problems, but paper, lamination and size are yours.
Static or dynamic QR code?
This tool makes static QR codes. The address you type is encoded directly into the pattern, so the code works forever, needs no account, and does not depend on us or on anyone else staying online.
A dynamic QR code points at a short redirect link that you can change later and that counts scans. That is useful when the destination will move, and it is what most paid QR services sell — the code only works while their subscription does.
