After almost two decades during which the Speyside distillery only produced malts sold to other brands for their blends, it decided to release a malt under its own name again. Tamnavulin Double Cask is the first in a series of such whiskies. It matures in American oak barrels and then finishes in sherry casks. The result is a pleasantly fruity whisky, as expected from this combination of casks. Since its creation, it has won several medals from various competitions, which is a good testament to the product and the distillery.
Its aroma is of chocolate mousse, cooked apples, and brown sugar. The taste is of Christmas cake, chocolate brownies, and yellow plums. The finish is decently long and again sweet.
