After almost two decades in which the Speyside distillery produced only malts that were sold to other brands to enter their blends, it decided to release a malt under its own name again. Tamnavulin Double Cask is the first of the series of such whiskies. It is aged in American oak casks and then finished in sherry casks. The result is a pleasant fruity whisky, as might be expected from this combination of casks. Since its creation, it has managed to win several medals from various competitions, which is a good attestation for the product and the distillery.
Its aroma is of chocolate mousse, cooked apples and brown sugar. The taste is of Christmas cake, chocolate brownies and yellow plums. The finish is reasonably long and again sweet.
