The Macallan transports new oak from America across thousands of kilometres to Spain, where the casks are crafted and seasoned with sherry, before being transported to the distillery in Speyside, where they are filled and matured for at least 12 years. These whiskies are then harmoniously blended with whiskies matured in exceptional European oak casks seasoned with sherry. The delicate aroma of American oak – vanilla, citrus, and light oak – stands out, while the traditional character of Macallan's European oak – dried fruits and woody spices – provides a familiar background.
