The Macallan brings new American oak thousands of miles to Spain, where the casks are made and seasoned with sherry, before being transported to the distillery in Speyside, where they are filled and aged for at least 12 years. These whiskeys are then harmoniously married with whiskeys aged in exceptional European oak sherry-seasoned casks. The delicate aroma of American oak — vanilla, citrus, and light oak — stands out, while the traditional character of Macallan European oak — dried fruits and woody spices — provides a familiar backdrop.
