Taste and Aroma
Hoegaarden is characterised by a fresh, slightly sweet and citrusy taste. The aroma is rich in:
- coriander;
- Curaçao orange peel;
- wheat;
- light floral and spicy notes.
The finish is soft, refreshing and with almost imperceptible bitterness.
History
The recipe dates back to 1445, when monks in the Belgian village of Hoegaarden began brewing wheat beer with coriander and orange peel. After production almost disappeared in the 20th century, in 1966 local milkman Pierre Celis revived the original style and turned Hoegaarden into one of the most popular Belgian beers in the world.
